The fact that Alfons Heiderich was gay had really shocked Edward into a loss of words, and the other fact that he had had a boyfriend for two years was another thing that had really kicked his ass.
In the time Edward had been living with Alfons, he had to admit that he was very handsome. He was well built, (tall), and had a great personality. He wondered numerous times why the young German had had no wife, nor kids. And then the truth had come out.
Another thing that Edward had to admit to was that he was a little hurt by these newfound facts. He was alone in this new world, except for Alfons (and his father, who in Edward's book, didn't count), who had shown him kindness, and Edward had hoped (secretly) that it could have become more between them.
Alfons didn't notice the roughness in Ed's voice as he asked questions. "What's his name?"
Alfons was doing the dishes from the supper that the whole conversation had popped up during, Edward had remained in his chair. The only movement he had done was turn slightly to glare at Alfons' back.
The German didn't hesitate as he answered, "Ronald Marre." Ed's eyes narrowed. The name seemed simple enough.
"And why haven't I met him?" he demanded.
Alfons actually let out a chuckle. "Why do you care, all of a sudden?" he asked. When Ed didn't answer, the German sighed and place the last dish on the drying rack. "He's in the military and has been traveling the country for the past two years, due to the war," he explained. "They're finally allowing him to come home," he said, and let out a dreamy sigh as he turned to dry his hands.
Ed scowled. "So I guess you're gonna see him soon..." he said, and Al nodded, looking down at the towel that was drying his hands. "Can-Can I meet him?" It was a question Ed had been dying to ask, but he hadn't meant to stutter over the words. He mentally scolded himself, as Alfons processed the question... And beamed.
"Of course! Wow, Ed you'll love him. I know it," Al said, and began going on and on about the things Ed had in common with this... Ronald guy.
Though Ed was caught between excitement at meeting Ronald and anger at Alfons' lover, he couldn't help but smile at Alfons' rantings. The man's joy had become contagious.
A couple of days later, Ed was lying on the couch once more. His mind focused and unfocused on the book that was propped on his stomach, while Alfons was folding clothes upstairs. The door bell rang.
Ed didn't bother to get it the first time. But after a moment, it rang again and as he called upstairs for Alfons to get it, the German didn't respond. So, Ed was forced to drag his heavy body out of its lazy shape, off the couch, and go greet (and dismiss) whoever it was at the door.
He opened the front door... And screamed.
Roy Mustang... Roy Mustang, was at their front door, draped in a light brown coat, black eyes shining, and a gentle smile plastered on his face. (At least it was plastered there until Ed screamed, when the smile turned down in confusion.)
"What are you doing here!" Ed demanded, but didn't leave time for Roy to answer before he snapped out a round of orders and questions. "Never mind. How'd you get here? How did you find this place?"
He wanted to asked more, but Alfons came down the stairs after hearing all the commotion. He smiled, "Roy!"
Ed turned and arched a brow at his partner. "You know him!" he exclaimed.
Alfons laughed, and walked up to the door, brushing past Ed and standing between the two. "Of course. Ed, this is my boyfriend, Roy!"
Ed's eyes narrowed dangerously at Alfons, then. "I thought you said his name was Ronald..?"
The Roy Mustang look-alike let out a chuckle, which made Ed gawk at him for a moment. "Yes, if you want to be formal. Roy Marre at your service." He extended a hand, and Ed looked at it for a moment before taking the limb into his own prosthetic one.
"Edward Elric..." he announced, and shook Roy's hand firmly.
Roy tugged his hand back, and Ed let go. The black-haired man looked at Alphonse and gave him the dashing smile that Ed had almost forgotten. "I was hoping you and I could go out this afternoon. Catch up, get some food..." he offered.
Ed saw Al's eyes light up, but then they turned to him with hopeful wonder and Ed found that the decision had been left to him. He scoffed, "Don't look at me, your both grown men, make your own decisions." He turned away from the two to make his way back to the living room, and his couch.
The voices of the two faded behind him, but even as he made it back to the couch could he still hear the murmuring sound a bit longer. They were talking about him, no doubt.
Then the sound of the door clicking closed echoed through their small house and Ed let out a sigh of relief. His eyes looked at the couch were his book was lying open, then his eyes found their way to the window, and he silently watched the two leave. Arm in Arm. Talking and laughing already.
He stood and watched them walk out of the front yard and turn right. Before they were completely out of sight, for some reason, Alfons looked back. He saw Edward's figure in the window, and waved a happy 'good-bye for now.' Edwards' breath caught in his throat for a moment, and he ducked out of view.
They look happy, they look so happy... Ed told himself as he dragged his feet (which suddenly felt so heavy) back over to the couch. He fell onto the sofa with a -fumph- and let out a long sigh as his mind began to wander.
I wonder, if Alphonse and Roy are happy like that back home... He could see Alphonse's boyish grin, and Roy's trademark smirk. He inwardly noted that he would give anything to talk to them, even for a moment, and even if he was talking to that bastard... And then he wondered if his brother and Roy would be happy like this Alfons and his boyfriend. If they ever were together. He even wondered if they were together, right now, doing... Things that couples do...
I'll be happy if Alphonse is happy. Ed smiled. But if that colonel bastard ever touches my baby brother that way... I'll kill him.
Al: Brother would kill you if he found out...
Roy: Shut up and kiss me.
Ed: ... I'M GONNA KILL YOU!
