Summary:He couldn't believe what he had just been asked. To dance? And by a good looking guy?
Warning: -None Really-
"Would you like to dance?"
Alphonse glanced up to see a good looking young man with typical blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing nice clothes to celebrate the New Year occasion. Alphonse was also wearing a nicer suit than usual, and had bathed before the party, making his hair shine. He couldn't believe what he had just been asked. To dance? And by a good looking guy? He felt his cheeks burn up, and his eyes glanced around the room, looking for a way to avoid the question.
And there was the answer to his prayers. Standing by the snack table, munching on a plate full of cookies, was his research partner, Edward Elric, who was idly watching the people around him chatting and having fun. Alphonse had begged Edward to come, knowing it would be good for the foreigner to mingle with the neighbors, and just get his nose out of the books. Ed had agreed grudgingly at Alphonse's promise of food.
Alphonse looked at the offerer with apologetic eyes, as he said hastily, "I'll be right back." Pushing himself off the couch, he made his way over to Edward.
"Ed..." He asked, stealing a glance back to the corner of the room where the man was waiting with a content smile on his face.
Ed looked up from a cookie he was fingering. "What?" he asked. "Ready to go?"
Alphonse could hear the hope in those words, and he would have scolded Ed or at least scowled, but he just shrugged it off, shaking his head. "No... No... No... It's just..." he paused, thinking of what to say. "I have a problem." Ed simply gave him a questioning look. "That guy... Over there..." Al pointed the man out. "He asked me to dance with him."
Ed smiled and shrugged his shoulders. "So what, you don't want to?" he asked, returning to the cookie he was playing with, lifting it up and popping it into his mouth.
Alphonse shook his head. "No!"
"Because he's a guy?" Ed arched an eyebrow and stared at him, and Alphonse felt his face heating up once again.
"No... It's not because of that. I just... It's just... I can't dance," he whispered to his friend in a hush-hush tone. He felt the heat rise to his face in embarrassment, and Ed's snicker didn't help much.
"So tell him that," his friend encouraged, picking up another cookie.
"I can't. He'll think it's an excuse to not dance with him because he's a guy. He'll think I'm a homophobe."
"And you care... Why?" Ed asked, an amused smile playing across his lips as he cast a brief glance from Alphonse and back to his next cookie.
"Ed...!" Al wailed.
"What...?" Ed snapped. "What do you want me to do?"
"Help?" Al asked hopefully. His blue eyes lit up and Ed pulled his gaze away from them, for just a moment, to look at the man behind his partner. Then back at Alphonse... Then to his cookie again. He weighed his options, and Alphonse could see that he was really thinking of a way to help.
Suddenly, a wolfish grin came across Ed's face, and he glanced back at Al's pursuer. Just within shouting distance... Perfect.
Al looked at him in confusion, and jumped when he heard Ed bark, "Hey!" The man's head shot up in Ed's direction. He stared at the long-haired blond with uncertainty. "Back off, he's mine!" Ed stated.
The man's head hung low in disappointment, and he slunk off in the same manner. Al just gaped at Edward for a moment, while Ed picked up yet another cookie and popped it into his mouth.
"There..." Ed said simply, "Now he won't think you're a homophobe."
You know what, I just now realized I spelled Alfons' name wrong, throughout this story! XD Gosh darnit!
