Once Edward thought about it… Greed hadn’t been that bad. Ed was even regretting helping Ling get rid of the sin, especially now, watching the newly restored Prince threat over his injured body guard. It was only now, watching the them together that Ed realized that Ling will never look at him the way Greed had, Ling would never want to hold him the way Greed had, and Ling would never want him the way Greed had. Ling had Ran Fan, and now, Ed had no one.
It was funny, thinking back at how horrified he had been when Ling allowed Greed to take over. Ling had been a boy Ed’s own age, whose strength matchedhis, who shared the same ambition as Edward, and who was the perfect person for Ed to switch his crush from the Colonel to. Ed was tried of chasing men who were more then twice his aged, Ling was a god send.
Except, the prince only thought of Edward as an asset, if anything above that, a companion in battle, but not a lover… However, Greed had thought of him as all of those, and more, Greed promised him a special place by his side once he ruled as emperor of Xing, he promised him silk robes, all the books he could ever ask for, and all the attention Ed could ever want. But the things Edward wanted the most Greed never offered. A way to restore Al, and Ling.
Ling paused in stroking Ran Fan’s hair out of her eyes, and looked back at the alchemist that had been standing in the door way, and flashed him a smile. A smile that looked exactly like the ones Greed would give him, before they had sex. Ed’s breath caught in his throat, and his body stiffened, preparing for Ling to pounce on him, but the attack never came; instead Ling turned back to Ran Fan and gently kissed her hand.
Ouch… that hurt, but it had been expected.
Ed allowed himself another minute, to watch the two Xingian’s console each other, before turning his back to them, and walking out of the operation room.
Ling had gotten his happy ending, and as usually, Ed was a long way away from his.
By now he doubted that he would ever get one.
